THEME: CHARACTER BUILDING (6)
TEXT: 1 Samuel 8:4-5
An example we considered last Sunday was the life of Moses. Today, we will be looking at the life of Saul and the Israelites.
Introduction: Character is different from Charisma. If you fail to build your character now, the way you see yourself going up is the same way you see yourself coming down. Charisma shines so soon and dies so soon. Please, do not imitate the world. Some do this due to peer pressure and societal influence. It has become paramount to know that friendship with the world is enmity with God.
I Sam 10. Saul was a very handsome man and had an edge over everyone in the town, but he was rejected by God. Each time you reject God, you are pushing yourself into an untimely grave.
TWO MAJOR FLAWS IN THE LIFE OF SAUL.
The most dangerous thing in the life of Saul was that he did not know these things was a tragedy.
1) He had Self Deception: 1 Samuel 15:7-23. Each time you take God halfway, it is the same as obedience. Self-deception kills a glorious man.
2) He had Self Exaltation (Pride): Pride they say goes before fall. I Samuel 13:1-11. Examples of those who exalted themselves in the bible were a) Lucifer. Isaiah 14:12-14; b) the parable of the story of the man. Luke 12:18-20.
CONSEQUENCES OF SELF EXALTATION
1) You lose your throne.
2) You lose your sanity.
Everything Saul got died with him on the mountain. It will be a tragedy for you to allow your character destroys your life.
In conclusion, Proverbs 16:18. Saul was exalted from the beginning. He was on the throne, God rejected him. He was there for years, yet God never knew him. CHECK YOURSELF.
